Multidimensionality of job performance: An empirical assessment through scale development

Almaas Sultana.

Abstract
The study aims to develop and validate a job performance scale from the Indian context. The supervisory rating scale has been used for the present study. A convenience sample of 423 principals was taken to rate teachers’ performance. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were used for validating the scale. The study found that job performance is a higher-order construct with task-performance, contextual-performance, and counterproductive-work-behavior as its dimensions. The results of CFA indicate the reliability and validity of the scale. The study can be a very effective tool to measure job performance among teachers. The principals, supervisors, and policymakers can use this scale to measure the performance of teachers. The present study is the first of its kind to develop and validate the scale from the Indian context.

Key words: Job performance, supervisory rating scale, task performance, contextual performance, counterproductive work behavior
