National Identity Through Cognitive Style of Narration: An Analysis of Naipaulís Indian Trilogy

V. Balasingh, Dr. Sanjit K. Mishra.

Abstract
Travel literature, one of the prominent genres in the representation of foreign cultures and panorama accommodates all sorts of narrative styles. The relationship between travel literature and narrative is not a new phenomenon but in practice ever since ancient Greek epics with the different purpose- adventure, quest etc.Öand the journey itself is considered a narration. The intention of this paper is to analyse the narratives in Naipaulís Indian trilogy as an empirical data for studies of cognitive narrative in addition to structuralist narratology situated in post independent India in the light of David Hermanís ďsocio narratologyĒ (1999) contextualizing the personal life and mental development as a voyage.

Key words: Travel literature, Narratives, Cognitive Narrative, Structuralist narratology.
