Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of DokunSay number tablets on the development of arithmetic skills of pre-school children aged 48-60 months. The participants of the study consisted of 19 preschool children attending a private kindergarten. The study utilized a quasiexperimental design without a control group with pre-test post-test. The data were collected by a test consisting of 21 questions. In the analysis of the data, t-test results and percentage calculations were used. There was a significant difference [t (19) = -6.994, p <.01]. between the pre-test and post-test scores of the children. The effect size between the pre-test and post-test averages was calculated to be high (Cohen d value 1.24). It was determined that children could easily find the number of objects in a group and compare the two groups with respect to quantity, but they had difficulty in finding the previous, the next number and counting backwards. In the light of the results obtained, it can be said that DokunSay mathematics teaching materials are effective in the development of arithmetic skills of pre-school children.
