Abstract

This study was performed by the end of the autumn semester of 2006-2007 Education
Seasons. The main aim of the study is to clarify whether occupational respect (i.e.the value judge
which the individual has developed according to his professional choice) may vary according to
university, branches, sex of students, teaching type and reasons in choosing the profession. The sample
of the study was comprised of last year branches at Pamukkale University and Gazi University. In this
research totally 633 students were included the study. Moreover, Professional-Self Concept Criteria
which was developed by Arıcak (2001) was used by his permission to clarify self-respect of the
sample group. As a result of the study, it was observed that self-respect approachments of students at
Pamukkale University and Gazi University was almost at the same level and that sex of students and
the reason to choose the teaching profession was an important factor but not the branches at which
they study and teaching type
