Abstract

In this study, the suitableness of six grade science textbooks, the teacher guidebooks and the
student workbooks prepared according to 2004 science and technology curriculum to the constructivist learning
theory has been investigated. In the study, after explaining what constructivist theory is and what its
requirements are, it has pointed out which elements must be in constructivist science textbooks. For unit analyses
criteria suitable to constructivist learning theory has been set and the contents have been examined accordingly.
For examining a biology, a chemistry and a physics unit were selected. The units, which were examined, didn’t
include parts of criteria necessary for constructivist teaching processes. In general, textbooks are partly
organized suitable according to constructivist learning theory.
