Abstract

Nauroz (Persian: وروز ن,‎ pronounced‎ [nowˈɾuːz];‎ lit.‎ 'New day’) the very first day of Persian calendar, is celebrated in most countries elaborating its historical significance as well as to welcome the spring season. Nauroz the ‘New‎Day’‎- which signals the beginning of spring and a change in seasons – a time which should also reflect a change and a rebirth within ourselves. The day of great happiness and falls on March 21 and is celebrated throughout the Muslim world. Nauroz is celebrated from March 21st onwards for a week or ten days depending on where it is being celebrated. It marks the New Year and the beginning of spring across a vast geographical area covering Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Different people around the world celebrate it in different perspectives and beliefs. Nauroz has a dominant cultural asset possessing religious and historical background. In Pakistan it is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, D.I.Khan, Bilot, Multan, Parachanar, Bhakkar, Karachi, Layyah,Khushab
and Chitral, with polo, foot-ball, volley-ball and hockey matches, folk dances and music. People living in other cities also celebrate but more privately, the home being the centre of festivities as family and friends call on and visit each other or get together for a meal, with traditional customs like the offering of sweets and looking into a mirror etc: before entering the‎host’s‎house‎still‎ taking‎place‎ to‎preserve‎ the‎ancient‎rites‎of‎ the‎festival. The present study focused to find out the historical & cultural background of the day enriched with its importance, traditions of Eid-e-Nauroz and moral values. The researcher visited different districts of Pakistan to participate in Nauroz celebrations in this regard. The available documents and literature was also explored to get into the event with due interest and pleasure. This review article is just based upon the literature review regarding the importance of Nauroz.. The study ended with some practical suggestions to observe the event more attractive in a joyful situation.
