Abstract

Kamala Markandaya is a post-independence female novelist and South Indian Peasant women. She is close to the native country and its condition during the contemporary life and expresses her feeling, notions and ideas with power. In her novels, one can find the rural and urban scene, spiritual quest, novelty, attitude toward feminine superiority, East - West encounter, conflict between tradition and prevalent modernism and somewhat historical attitudes. My study on Kamala Markandaya is deals with the theme of East - West meeting and its conflicts in regard to both Indian and British. So, it is entitled “East - West Encounter”
