Abstract

Metaphors are types of expressions that reflect our conceptual perceptions. They are important tools of our mental worlds in that they help individuals explain their lives, environments and the events and phenomena in their environments. To this aim, teachers’ perceptions of the concept of school manager were determined through metaphors. The sample of the research consisted of 106 teachers working in the city of Erzincan. The data of the research were collected using the semi-structured interview form. According to the findings, the participant teachers produced a total of 24 metaphors regarding school managers. These metaphors were grouped under themes. The theme of “management” had the highest number of metaphors. The participant teachers represented school managers using the metaphors of commander, soldier, computer, pencil and manager, respectively.
