The aim of this study was to investigate whether the classroom test scores could be used to give proficiency-based results by using the 70% correct response method. For this purpose, the extent to which the question groups obtained with 70% correct response method represented the proposed cognitive dimensions and the similarity of the question groups obtained with 70% correct response method and item mapping method were examined. The findings of the study showed that the question groups obtained using the 70% correct response method were hierarchical. In addition, findings indicated that the 70% correct response method and item mapping method showed some similarities. With the use of this method, it is believed that teachers could give more frequent proficiency-based feedback on their test results.
