Review of 8th Grade Turkish Textbooks in Terms of Teaching Epos

The aim of this research is to examine 8th Grade Turkish textbooks approved by the Ministry of National Education from the point of view of epos genre’s teaching. In this research, which is applied to the qualitative research method, the data were obtained by taking the document examination method as the basis. In order to obtain the data, it was decided that the Ministry of National Education and Dörtel Publishing which the Ministry of National Education should give a free course book to be taught and distributed in the academic
year of 2017-2018 and published in EBA and 8th grade Turkish Course Books, Work Books and Teacher Guide Books belonging to Ada and Yıldırım Publications, which differ from other books in terms of themes and activities. The obtained data is presented by the content analysis technique. It has been seen that one of the 8th grade Turkish textbooks contains a text that is not in epos genre. It has been determined that the epos texts are shown the works of certain authors, that the texts included in the books haven’t got the origin of the texts and sometimes the name of the epos. In the Workbooks and Teacher's Guidebooks, it was seen that the activities
related to the comprehension of the epos genre, the questions asked and the definitions given were not sufficient in terms of the genre and epic descriptions of the field. Suggestions were made in the frame of the findings
