Abstract

This paper explores the evolving landscape of political communication in the digital age, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities presented by digital platforms. It examines historical contexts, current practices, and future trends, emphasizing the impact of social media, websites, email campaigns, and mobile apps on political engagement. Key challenges such as misinformation, echo chambers, data privacy, and the digital divide are analyzed alongside opportunities for enhanced engagement, innovative campaign strategies, transparency, and global dialogue. Through case studies, including the 2008 and 2012 Obama campaigns and the 2014 and 2019 Indian General Elections, the paper illustrates successful and problematic uses of digital political communication. Finally, it discusses emerging technologies and potential regulatory developments shaping the future of political communication.
