Abstract

In the past, pupils and students were always assisted by their teachers in the classroom, where they could no longer detach themselves from their teacher to carry out any task: the majority were no longer self-sufficient. But since the latest reforms affecting both the education and university systems, we've seen the introduction of ICT into teaching / learning, where the role of both partners has completely changed: in this new pedagogical paradigm, the role of the teacher evolves towards that of accompanist, while the learner becomes the central element of any educational approach. We are now moving on to the flipped classroom, an innovative pedagogical approach that is finding fruitful application in the teaching of French as a foreign language. This methodology rethinks traditional dynamics by placing the transmission of knowledge outside the classroom. Learners are invited to explore the content at home, usually via digital resources such as videos, documents or online exercises. This autonomy fosters flexibility, enabling everyone to progress at their own pace.

So, in this contribution, we'll take a hands-on look at student autonomy in the FLE classroom in a university that's becoming increasingly digitized in the age of ICT proliferation.
