Values Affecting the Career Choice of Elementary Education Eighth Grade Students (Mardin province example)

The aim of this study is to determine the values that influence career choice of students who attend elementary school eighth grade. In the study a survey model was used to determine the values affecting the choice of the students. The data were obtained through a fifteen-item questionnaire and an interview questionnaire. Research data were analyzed by quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. The sample of the study consisted of 39 students attending the eighth grade secondary school in Mardin. In the first place the value that students prefer in career selection is that it should be a community-respected profession; and secondly, the profession should provide a good income and meet a high standard of living.
