Mathematics Teachers’ Level of Knowing About The Measurement Tools in New Elementary School Mathematics Teaching Program and their Frequency of Use

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze elementary school mathematics teachers’ knowledge and their frequency of use about the measurement tools in the new elementary mathematics program and to investigate whether there is a significant difference according to their length of service as well as find out the relationship between the elementary school mathematics teachers’ knowledge and their frequency of use about the measurement tools. For this purpose, Teacher View Questionnaire About the Measurement Tools I-II was applied to a total of 131 elementary school mathematics teachers -51 male and 80 female- that took place in Afyonkarahisar. Results of the study revealed that there were statistically significant differences in teachers’ knowledge level about the measurement tools according to their length of service. But, there were no statistically significant differences in teachers’ frequency of use about the measurement tools. Results of the study also showed that there were positive and moderate relationship between teachers’ knowledge level and frequency of use about the measurement tools.
