The purpose of this research is to analyze prospective preschool teachers’ metacognitive awareness and to find out whether a significant difference exists according to gender, grade, and the types of high school they have graduated. For this purpose, Metacognitive Awareness Inventory was applied to a total of 183 students -166 female and 17 male- from three different universities. The research was conducted in the spring semester of 2009-2010 academic year. Results of the study revealed that prospective teachers have a medium-high level metacognitive awareness. Besides, the results also showed that there is no significant
difference between females and males with respect to their metacognitive awareness. Additionally, a significant difference is found with respect to prospective teachers’ grade (F = 4.72, p < .05, f = .23), and no significant difference is found with respect to the types of high school they have graduated (F = 1.21, p > .05).
