Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate whether “TUBITAK scholarship holders” Academic Staff
and Graduate Education Entrance Examination [ASGEE] scores” and “Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point
Average [UCGPA]” variables which are used to determine graduate scholarship holders are equivalent from the
standpoint of variance proportions in explaining Graduate Cumulative Grade Point Average [GCGPA]”. This
study was conducted by using correlational model. Research group consisted of 818 scholarship holders within
the scope of TUBITAK national (domestic) direct doctoral scholarship programme between the years 2009-2013.
The data collected within the framework of research question were tested by using hierarchical regression analyses.
It was found that scholarship holders’ ASGEE and UCGPA scores significantly predict the master's academic
success. It was found that UCGPA scores are better predictors of master's academic success when compared to
ASGEE scores although they are equally weighted to determine TUBITAK scholarship holders
