The aim of this research was to adapt an inventory which was developed by Mokhtari and Reichard,
(2002) called “Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies Inventory”. For equal forms process, both English
and Turkish forms of the inventory were administered to 29 students studying at sixth-grade in a private elementary
school, in Sakarya. Then, for reliability and validity, the inventory was administered to a total of 250 students
studying at fifth grade in two different elementary schools located in Sakarya. In addition, EFA (exploratory) and
CFA (confirmatory) analyses were used to evaluate the reliability and validity of the inventory on students’ scores
obtained from the inventory. The correlation coefficient between the Turkish and English forms scores was .96. All
factors’ reliability coefficients in the inventory ranged between .76 and .85. Considering these findings, MARSI has
enough reliability and validity to be used in educational research
