Opinions of the Prospective Teachers about Creativity*

Abstract

The aim of this study is to present the prospective teachers’ definitions of creativity, opinions about promoting and preventing the creativity, thoughts on the teaching occupation skills and expectations from a lesson that develops creativity. The research group consisted of 5 prospective teachers from Hacettepe University, Department of Primary Education and Science Teacher Education 4th grade students. For gathering data, focus group discussion technique was used. For the data obtained contend analysis technique was used. The views of prospective teachers interpreted by grouping as “creativity, behaviors promoting the creativity, behaviors preventing the creativity, relationship between teaching occupation skills and creativity and expectations from a lesson promoting creativity. The results indicated that prospective teachers explain creativity as thinking freedomly and emphasizing exceeding limits.
The teacher should be a model to his students and especially gives importance communication with his students.
