An Experimental Study: The Impact of Bibliocounseling on Self-esteem of Sixth Grade Students

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of “Self-Esteem Enrichment
Bibliocounseling Program” on self-esteem levels of sixth grade students. An experimental design, with a
treatment and no-treatment control group and two measurements (pretest and posttest) was used.
Participants were twenty four six grade students from an university affiliated private middle school in
Ankara. Participants were randomly selected and assigned to experiment and control group conditions, as
12 participants in each group. The experiment group participants attended 80-minutes treatment session,
for the duration of eight weeks. The Mixed Design Repeated-Measure Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was
used to investigate the effect of treatment program. The results indicated that the treatment was effective
in increasing treatment group subjects’ self-esteem scores
