Abstract

For this study, web-based Computer Aided Instructional software materials were developed
for “Natural Processes” unit of 8th grade Science and Technology course. The developed instructional
software was evaluated for its appropriateness with web-based learning environments. Then its effect on
the academic success of students was investigated. During the production processes of the software content,
instructional and technical properties included in analysis, design, and development processes. Web Based
Learning Platform Evaluation Scale was used and reported to evaluate the developed software’s
appropriateness to standards. The study was quasi-experimental with a model of pre-test, post-test with
control group. The sample of the study was 66 eight grade students enrolled in two public secondary
schools. Both the teachers and the students got interested in the software they used. Based on the findings,
it can be stated that while academic success in experimental group students significantly differed, there was
no difference between successes of control group students
