Determination of Word Knowledge and Comprehension Levels in Normal Developing and Learning Disorder Children

The objective of this study is to determine the knowledge of the vocabulary and comprehension levels in normal developing children and the ones with learning disorder. 50 children participated in the study which 28 are girls and 22 are boys. Also, 30 of them are normal developed and 20 having learning disorder. To evaluate the knowledge of the words and levels of comprehension of the language, Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and Basic Mental Abilities (BMAs) Test 7-11 are used. As a result of the study, a significant difference was found in favor of boys according to the points taken in Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test in normal developed children. According to Basic Mental Abilities (BMAs) Test 7-11, there was no significant difference between genders. Besides, there was
significant difference (p<0.05) in Peabody receptive language point mean values between normal developed children and children with learning disorder.
